Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What should I know about my first visit to the clinic?
During your first visit, please ensure you have your insurance number (AMKA) and a list of the medications you regularly take. You will need to complete a medical history form and a consent form for the processing of your personal data. We will then discuss any concerns you have regarding your teeth and smile. Following a clinical examination, we may take x-rays (intraoral and/or panoramic), photographs (intraoral and/or extraoral), and impressions. These will be analyzed to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
How often should I have a check-up?
In general, regular check-ups of the teeth and gums are recommended twice a year, or every six months, for proper prevention and early diagnosis of incipient problems. In any case, after the end of any treatment, a personalized follow-up program is prepared to properly maintain the therapeutic effect.
What should I know before bleaching?
Bleaching is allowed for adult patients. There are two whitening techniques: in-office and at-home. Whichever technique we choose, it is important to mention that teeth cleaning should be done first. A prerequisite for whitening is the absence of inflammation of the periodontal tissues (absence of gingivitis/ periodontitis).
This procedure achieves the whitest colour of each patient’s natural teeth. Existing restorations (fillings, crowns, etc.) do not change colour. After whitening, mild tooth sensitivity may be observed for a short period of time. The whitening effect is not permanent. The duration of the effect depends mainly on the frequency of intake of exogenous pigments such as coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco.
How often can I bleach?
With the modern whitening materials we now have at our disposal, whitening is no longer considered a harmful procedure for teeth, as long as the protocols and instructions of the manufacturer of each material are followed. The result of whitening is expected to last 2 to 3 years, depending on the patients` oral health care, their habits, and the frequency of eating foods containing pigments. After this period, the procedure can be repeated.
Is bleaching allowed during pregnancy/ postpartum/ breastfeeding?
There is not enough research to provide an answer. However, teeth whitening is essentially a cosmetic procedure that requires the use of biocompatible chemical whitening substances. While regular check-ups of teeth and gums are mandatory during pregnancy, any type of unnecessary procedure should be avoided. There is also not enough research done regarding bleaching during the postpartum and breastfeeding periods.
Is dental work allowed during pregnancy/ postpartum/ breastfeeding?
The hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy often lead to gum irritation. During this period, regular check-ups of teeth and gums should not be omitted. Major surgical procedures or cosmetic procedures should be scheduled for later.
All dental procedures and local anaesthesia are permitted during the postpartum and breastfeeding periods. Care must be taken to ensure that any necessary antibiotics are compatible with breastfeeding.
